About Pitch Chess

Pitch Chess is real, full-rules chess played on a striped football pitch. Every piece is a footballer: the Keeper is your king, the Captain is your queen, Defenders are rooks, Midfielders are bishops, Strikers are knights and the Youth players are pawns.

Work your way up a career of 10 computer opponents, from a Sunday-league rookie who leaves pieces hanging to a grandmaster boss who punishes every slip. Capture a piece and it gets tackled off the pitch while the ball flies into the net; deliver checkmate and the whole stadium erupts.

How to play

  1. Tap one of your players to see where it can go, then tap a glowing square. You can also drag a player to its new square.
  2. All normal chess rules apply: castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate and draws.
  3. Checkmate the other team's Keeper (king) to win the match.
  4. Use Undo and Hint when you are stuck. The first three undos of every game are free.
  5. Beat each opponent to unlock the next. Every 5th match is a boss with a bigger reward.
